Plants are grown in greenhouse conditions that can be very different from the light, humidity and environment inside your home. Rather than simply bringing them in and putting them up for sale, every plant goes through our signature acclimation and care process.

Once a plant arrives from our greenhouse or supplier, we carefully remove it from its original growing medium, inspect and clean the roots, and repot it in our signature handcrafted soil blend, individually curated to support the needs of each plant variety. The plant is then treated with our organic plant spray to help clean the foliage and address any unwanted pests that may have travelled with it.

From there, we give it something just as important: time.

Each plant is allowed to acclimate to an indoor environment while we closely observe how it responds to its new soil, light and surroundings. We monitor its overall health and growth, and only once we’re satisfied that the plant is healthy, established and adjusting well is it made available for purchase.

It’s our way of taking care of the transition before it becomes yours—so bringing home a beautiful plant feels a little simpler, more intentional and less stressful.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR PHILODENDRON BLACK CARDINAL

The Philodendron Black Cardinal brings all the drama without demanding all the attention. Known for its deep, glossy foliage that emerges in rich burgundy and bronze tones before maturing to dark green, this Philodendron is relatively easygoing once you find the right spot. Give it soft light, intentional watering and a little room to grow, and it will do the rest.

  • Black Cardinal prefers indirect sunlight and should be protected from prolonged, harsh direct sun, which can scorch its beautiful dark foliage.

    A space with plenty of bright, filtered natural light is ideal. Light softened through a sheer curtain works beautifully, while gentle early morning or late evening sun is generally fine.

  • Your Black Cardinal will happily grow in medium light, but brighter indirect light will encourage stronger, more active growth and help showcase its rich foliage.

    A spot somewhere between a bright window and the middle of a well-lit room can work beautifully. Just remember—the farther your plant is from its light source, the slower its growth will typically be.

  • Allow approximately the top half of the soil to dry before watering again. Black Cardinal enjoys some moisture but doesn’t want its roots sitting in constantly wet soil.

    Rather than sticking to a weekly schedule, let the soil tell you when it’s time. Your home’s temperature, season, humidity and lighting all affect how quickly the soil dries. Expect to water a little more often in brighter, warmer conditions and less frequently during cooler months or in lower light.

    When it’s ready, water thoroughly and allow any excess water to drain.

    When in doubt, check the soil first. Your plant doesn’t know what day of the week it is.

  • Black Cardinal is perfectly comfortable in average household humidity and doesn’t require a tropical setup to thrive.

    Like most Philodendrons, it won’t complain about a little extra humidity, but it’s generally hardy and adaptable enough for everyday indoor living.

  • Philodendron Black Cardinal is toxic if ingested and may cause irritation and other adverse reactions in pets. If you share your home with a curious plant nibbler, keep this one safely out of reach.
